A sales rep might be disguised as your financial planner

June 8, 2016

Has anyone ever offered you a free financial plan analysis? Beware of flashy leather binders provided by sales reps advising you on the benefits of purchasing products to “improve” your financial plan. Most often, these agents are in the business of selling for a commission instead of looking out for your financial well-being.

This was the case for Kelly Long as she was offered a financial planning session that was essentially a sales pitch for an insurance policy. She quickly realized the agent failed to advise her on 401(k) options, HSA benefits, or even address her debt. “It wasn’t until I was taking classes to earn my Certified Financial Planner™ designation that I realized that this wasn’t a true financial plan in the standard that the CFP® Board sets for professionals who hold the designation,” says Long.

At TCG, we take pride in doing our best to comply with our fiduciary responsibility to serve you in your best interest. We believe in transparency and working with you to meet your goals.
