Do you need a financial advisor in retirement?

Retirement is a massive life change and mindset shift. When you go from accumulating assets to distributing assets to provide for your lifestyle, it is best to consult with a professional to help you make prudent decisions. A financial advisor will help you create an asset allocation to help you achieve your goals, so you don’t have to worry during retirement. They can also provide strategies on how to distribute from your accounts in the most tax-efficient way to meet your goals.

What are the benefits of hiring a financial advisor?
  • Financial advisors meet with you to understand your current situation and goals.
  • They analyze your assets, income, and expenses, and make recommendations to optimize your finances today while also creating a plan to help achieve your goals later in life. These goals can include college planning, retirement planning, investments, tax optimization, insurance, estate planning, business planning, and more.
  • Equally as important, they are someone you can call whenever financial situations arise in your life. They are there to support you in the ups and downs, and if they don’t have an immediate answer to your question they are well connected and can find someone who can.

What is a certified financial planner?

A CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional has had extensive training in investments, tax planning, retirement planning, risk management (insurance), estate planning, and more while adhering to the CFP Board’s ethical standards and meeting certain experience requirements. They are held to a fiduciary standard for their clients and make recommendations based on a client’s entire financial life, not just investment recommendations.

What does fiduciary mean?

Having a fiduciary responsibility means you are legally required to put a client’s interests ahead of your own and make the best recommendation for their situation. Unlike the fiduciary responsibility, the suitability standard means you only have to make a recommendation that is suitable for a client’s situation – not necessarily the best. CFP® professionals are held to a fiduciary responsibility.
